Vicar Apostolic of Meki
Bishop Abraham Desta, Vicar Apostolic of Meki, was born on March 21, 1951, in Medea-Sebea, in the Eparchy of Adigrat. He studied in his own country and in Ireland, obtaining a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Jesuit Institute of Milltown Park in Dublin. He was ordained a priest for Adigrat on April 20, 1980, in Adigrat. He served as an assistant in the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Westminster in England; rector of the diocesan college of Adigrat; secretary to the bishop and coordinator of diocesan youth ministry; and chancellor and secretary general of the Catholic Secretariat of the Eparchy of Adigrat. On January 29, 2003, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Horrea Aninici and Vicar Apostolic of Meki. He received episcopal ordination on May 10, 2003, with Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel as principal consecrator and Kidane-Mariam Teklehaimanot and Woldetensaé Ghebreghiorghis as co-consecrators.
