Altar Servers

Liturgical

Altar Servers assist Father with the Book, set the Altar, help collect the gifts, and cleanse his hands. Servers can be girls or boys who have received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.

Buildings and Grounds

Fraternal & Service

The Building & Grounds Committee is a group of parishioners who have talents that they are willing to share with the church. Some of those talents are plumbing, electrical, engineering, painting, gardening, and masonry.

Children's Faith Formation Ministry

Sacred Heart's Religious Education is an ongoing faith formation ministry Prekindergarten through Confirmation. Currently taking Registrations for the 2026-27 formation year.

Collection Counters

Parish Governance & Administration

This ministry helps to count the Sunday collections as well as special collections on Sundays from approximately 10:30am to early afternoon. It has a rotating schedule with four people assigned per Sunday.

Eucharistic Ministers

Liturgical

Known as 'Special Ministers of Holy Communion' or 'Extraordinary Ministers of Communion'. They assist during Mass and also bring Holy Communion to the sick in hospitals, nursing homes and shut-ins.

First Holy Communion

The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is available for Baptized children ages 7 years of age and older. There is a two year preparation program.

Holy Name Society

Prayer & Devotional

A Catholic men's society open to all male parishioners over 18 years of age. Meetings are on the 2nd Sunday of every month for 1 hour after the 12:15pm Mass in the Convent Dining Room, September through June.

Multi-Cultural Ministry

Cultural/Ethnic Ministry

The Multi-Cultural Ministry (MCM) represents the richly diverse cultural composition of the parish, practicing the Catholic faith expressed in various traditions. Monthly meeting: Every 2nd Saturday of the month in the Convent at 6:45pm. Our Mother of Perpetual Help Novena: Every Wednesday in the Convent Chapel at 7:30pm.

Music at Sacred Heart

Music ministry at Sacred Heart Church including Staff Musicians, the Chancel Choir, Multi-Cultural Ministry Choir, and Children's Schola. Director of Music: Cecilia Angarita.

NeXt Level Youth Ministry

Fraternal & Service

A service-based youth group for grades 7-11. Nominated by the Archdiocese of Newark Social Concerns Office to participate through the Center for FaithJustice in Trenton, NJ.

OCIA

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults. For those who are thinking about becoming a Catholic and are either unbaptized or have been baptized in another denomination seeking full communion with the Catholic Church. Classes conducted generally on Sundays; culminates at Easter Vigil.

Purificators

Fraternal & Service

This ministry is devoted to the proper care and cleaning of purificators, which are used during the distribution of the Precious Blood to wipe the cup after each person has consumed some of the Precious Blood. The ministry works on a monthly rotating basis within its members.

Rosary Society

Prayer & Devotional

The aim of the Rosary Society is to promote devotion to Our Lady through the Rosary and to strengthen our faith and love of our Lord. Activities include the May Crowning of Mary, the Christ Child shower for Birthright, making rosaries for nursing home residents, and an annual Communion breakfast.

Social Concerns

Fraternal & Service

Sacred Heart Parish, inspired by Christ's love, is committed to reaching out and responding to the needs of the poor, elderly, sick, and homeless. Programs include food baskets at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas; food bank volunteering; delivery drivers and food collection and distribution to Catholic aid agencies.

Ushers

Hospitality

Known as 'Ministers of Service' or 'Ministers of Hospitality'. Ushers greet parishioners, assist with seating, take up the collection, secure it, and ensure Communion is distributed in an orderly way.
