Bishop Henry Eikhlein

Henry Eikhlein was born on June 23, 1960, in Painne Chaung, in the Diocese of Pathein. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Yangon and subsequently completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Joseph Major Seminary in Yangon. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Pathein on March 11, 1989. He held the following positions and undertook further studies: Assistant Parish Priest at Pathein Cathedral (1989); Licentiate in Theology from the Université Catholique de l’Ouest, Angers (1992–1994); monastic experience in France (1989–1990), England, Israel, and the Philippines (1994–1995); Parish Priest of Theyetchaung, Pathein (1995–1997); Rector of the Minor Seminary in Mayanchaung, Pathein (1996–1997); Spiritual Director (1998–2003) and later Rector (2003–2009) of the Major Seminary in Yangon; Diocesan Director of Caritas “Karuna” Pathein (2009–2017); and Coordinator of the diocesan socio-pastoral program (2018–2021). Since 2021, he has served as Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Pathein.
