Bishop of Zamora
Joel Ocampo Gorostieta was born in El Paso de Tierra Caliente, in the Diocese of Tacámbaro, on August 21, 1963. After completing his studies at the diocesan seminary of Tacámbaro, he was ordained a priest on April 15, 1989. He obtained a Licentiate in the Theology of Marriage and the Family from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He has held the following positions: parochial vicar; person in charge of youth and vocational ministry; episcopal vicar for consecrated life; coordinator of diocesan pastoral work in Tacámbaro; parish priest of various communities; and member of the ecclesiastical tribunal. On April 2, 2019, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Altamirano, receiving episcopal ordination on July 9 of that same year.
