How to Use Magisterium AI in ChatGPT

Magisterium AI can now be connected directly to ChatGPT, giving you access to authoritative Catholic teaching, Mass readings, the lives of the Saints, and more — without ever leaving your existing ChatGPT conversations. This guide will walk you through how to set it up and get the most out of it using ChatGPT's MCP* connector feature.

Before You Begin

You'll need the following before getting started:

• An account at magisterium.com. A free account gives you 30 requests per day, while a paid account gives you unlimited requests per day.
• A paid ChatGPT account (Plus, Team, Pro, etc.)

Note for organizational accounts: If your ChatGPT account is managed by a school, diocese, or employer, developer mode may be disabled by your organization's settings. You'll need to ask your administrator to enable it before proceeding.

Part 1: Setting Up the Magisterium AI Connector

Step 1: Enable Developer Mode in ChatGPT

1. Open ChatGPT and click on your name or profile icon in the bottom-left corner.
2. Select Settings.
3. Navigate to the Apps section.
4. Look for Advanced Settings and click to expand it.
5. You'll see an option to enable Developer Mode. Click it and accept the prompt to acknowledge the risks once you have reviewed the stated policies.

Step 2: Create the Magisterium AI App

1. Once Developer Mode is enabled, click Create an App.
2. In the tool name field, enter: Magisterium AI
3. In the MCP Server URL field, enter:

https://mcp.magisterium.com

4. Leave the authentication setting on OAuth (the default).

5. Click I Understand, then click Create.

Step 3: Authorize the Connection

1. After clicking Create, ChatGPT will redirect you to the Magisterium AI login page.
2. Log in to your Magisterium AI account (or create one if prompted).
3. You'll be asked to grant ChatGPT access to your Magisterium AI account. Click Allow.
4. Return to ChatGPT — you may need to click the setup link again to complete the handshake.
5. Once connected, you should see the confirmation: Magisterium AI is now connected.

Step 4: Activate the Connector in Your Chat

1. In any ChatGPT conversation, click the More (or "+" tools) button in the chat input area.
2. Find Magisterium AI in the list and confirm it shows as connected.
3. You're all set!

Part 2: Using Magisterium AI in ChatGPT

Once connected, ChatGPT will call Magisterium AI when it recognizes your question as clearly liturgical or Catholic in nature. For straightforward requests — like asking for the Mass readings or the Saints of the Day — it will typically reach for the Magisterium AI connector on its own. You can verify this is happening by clicking the small tool indicator that appears in the response, which will show which Magisterium AI tool was called (e.g., Get Mass Readings, Get Martyrology).

What You Can Ask

Here are some examples of prompts that will typically trigger the Magisterium AI connector:

• "What are the Mass readings for today?"
• "Who are the Saints of the Day? Give me a brief reflection on each."
• "Find me resources on Catholic teaching about the dignity of human life."

A Note on Prompting

For more open-ended theological or doctrinal questions, ChatGPT may sometimes answer from its general training data rather than consulting Magisterium AI — especially if your question isn't obviously Catholic in nature. To make sure Magisterium AI is always consulted and your answer is grounded in authoritative sources, we recommend being explicit in your prompt:

"Using Magisterium AI, find Catholic teaching on the topic of X."

or simply:

"Check Magisterium AI for resources on Y."

This small habit ensures you're always getting answers rooted in the Magisterium rather than a general AI response.

Troubleshooting

The connector seems to have disconnected. This can happen occasionally as MCP integrations in ChatGPT are still maturing. Simply revisit the Apps settings, find Magisterium AI, and reconnect. It only takes a moment.

ChatGPT isn't calling Magisterium AI for my question. Try rephrasing your prompt to explicitly mention Magisterium AI (see the prompting tips above). This is the most reliable way to ensure the tool is used.

I don't see the Developer Mode option. Your account may be under organizational restrictions. Contact your ChatGPT administrator to request that developer/app integrations be enabled.
