Bishop Liro Vendelino Meurer

Liro Vendelino Meurer was born on July 13, 1954, in Salvador do Sul, in the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre. He pursued his philosophy studies at the *Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição* Faculty of Philosophy in Viamão and his theology studies at the Institute of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Porto Alegre. While at the Viamão Seminary, he obtained a Licentiate in Philosophy from the *Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição* Faculty of Philosophy and subsequently attended a course for seminary formators. He was ordained a priest on December 12, 1981, and incardinated into the clergy of Porto Alegre. Within the Archdiocese, he served in the following roles: Parochial Vicar of São João Batista Parish (1980–1982); Parochial Vicar of Santo Antônio Parish (1982–1983); Spiritual Director of the São José Minor Seminary in Gravataí (1983–1990); Pastor of Nossa Senhora de Montserrat Parish (1990–1991); Rector of the São João Maria Vianney Seminary in Bom Princípio (1991–1996); Pastor of São João Batista Parish (1996–2007); Episcopal Vicar for the Camaquã-Guaíba Vicariate of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre (2001–2008); and Pastor of São Geraldo Parish in Porto Alegre (2007–2008). On January 14, 2009, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Tucca in Numidia and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Passo Fundo. He received episcopal ordination on March 22 of that same year.
