Bishop of Uruaçu
Bishop Giovani Carlos Caldas Barroca, Bishop of Uruaçu [Uruassu], Goiás, Brazil, was born on 14 February 1969 in Brasília (DF). He studied philosophy and theology at Nossa Senhora de Fátima Seminary from 1987 to 1994. He was ordained priest in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Nossa Senhora Aparecida - DF, Archdiocese of Brasília, on 03 December 1994. He has a bachelor's degree in theology from Centro Universitário Claretiano and a postgraduate degree in Sacred Scripture from Centro Universitário Claretiano. He knows German, Italian, and Spanish. At the source date he was pastor of São Miguel Arcanjo Parish in Recanto das Emas (DF), Archdiocese of Brasília, since 08 February 1995. Dom Giovani was also founder of Comunidade Católica Vida Nova and episcopal vicar of the Eastern Vicariate in the Archdiocese of Brasília since 18 June 2016. He taught logic and philosophy at the major seminary of Brasília, at Redemptoris Mater Seminary, at the Faculty of Theology of Brasília (Fateo), and Sacred Scripture at the major seminary of Brasília. He was ordained bishop on 5 September 2020 in the Cathedral of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Brasília. Cardinal Dom Sergio da Rocha, Archbishop of Salvador (BA) and Primate of Brazil, was the ordaining bishop. The co-ordaining bishops were the Bishop of Luziânia (GO), president of Regional Centro-Oeste, Dom Waldemar Passini Dalbello, and the diocesan administrator of Brasília, Dom José Aparecido Gonçalves. Dom Giovani Carlos took possession of the Diocese of Uruaçu on 12 September 2020 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Uruaçu. His episcopal motto is "Servant of the Word of the Lord."
