Archbishop of Jalapa
Archbishop Jorge Carlos Patrón Wong, Archbishop of Xalapa, was born on January 3, 1958, in the city of Mérida, in the Archdiocese of Yucatán. He attended the Conciliar Seminary of Yucatán, where he completed his philosophical and theological studies. He was ordained a priest for Yucatán on January 12, 1988, and was incardinated in that archdiocese. From 1988 to 1993 he attended the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining licentiates in both spiritual theology and psychology. He served as professor of the Marist Centre of Higher Studies; chaplain of the Marist University in Mérida; spokesman of the archdiocese and coordinator of its commission for the means of communication. In 2000 he was appointed rector of the major seminary of Yucatán, and he also served as president of the Organisation of Latin American Seminaries. On October 15, 2009, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Papantla. He received episcopal ordination on December 15, 2009, at Mérida, with Christophe Louis Yves Georges Pierre as principal consecrator and Emilio Carlos Berlie Belaunzarán and Hipólito Reyes Larios as co-consecrators. He succeeded to the see as Bishop of Papantla on May 2, 2012. On September 21, 2013, he was appointed Archbishop and an official of the Congregation for the Clergy. On December 8, 2021, he was appointed Archbishop of Xalapa, and he was installed on February 8, 2022.
