Archbishop of Mérida
Helizandro Terán Bermúdez, O.S.A., was born in Maracaibo on June 7, 1965. He attended the Colegio Gonzaga in Maracaibo and the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, respectively. He continued his studies at the Celio Acosta Catholic University in Maracaibo, earning a Licentiate in Integral Education, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he obtained a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology. He made his solemn profession in the Order of Saint Augustine on December 23, 1994, and was ordained a priest in Maracaibo on September 9, 1995. He held the following positions: teacher at the Colegio Sant’Agostino in Caricuao; professor at the Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas; councilor and Vicariate secretary of the Order of Saint Augustine in Venezuela; rector of the Colegio Sant’Agostino in Caricuao; secretary of the Justice and Peace Commission of the O.S.A. Vicariate in Venezuela; member of the Order of Saint Augustine’s International Commission for Studies and for the administration of the *Agostinianum* Institute in Rome; and Provincial Vicar of the Order of Saint Augustine in Venezuela. He was appointed Bishop of Ciudad Guayana on July 29, 2017, and received episcopal ordination on September 23, 2017. Most Rev. Msgr. Helizandro Terán Bermúdez. Archbishop of Mérida.
