Bishop Mauro Parmeggiani

The Holy Father Francis has appointed Msgr. Mauro Parmeggiani—Bishop of Tivoli and, until now, Apostolic Administrator of Palestrina—as Bishop of the Suburbicarian Diocese of Palestrina, uniting the dioceses of Tivoli and Palestrina *in persona Episcopi* (in the person of the Bishop). Msgr. Parmeggiani was born on July 5, 1961, in Reggio Emilia (in the province of the same name, within the Diocese of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla). He pursued his ecclesiastical studies at the Interdiocesan Theological Institute of Reggio Emilia. He was ordained a priest on October 18, 1985, for the Diocese of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla, and was subsequently incardinated into the Diocese of Rome on November 25, 1996. He served as Diocesan Assistant for the Youth Sector of Italian Catholic Action in Reggio Emilia-Guastalla and as a religion teacher at the “L. Nobili” Industrial Technical Institute in Reggio Emilia (1985–1986). He then served as Private Secretary to His Eminence Cardinal Ruini, first as a staff assistant at the General Secretariat of the Italian Episcopal Conference (1986–1991) and later at the Vicariate of Rome (1991–2003). From 1993 to 2008, he was Director of the Youth Pastoral Care Service for the Vicariate of Rome. On October 17, 2003, he became Prelate Secretary of the Vicariate of Rome, and on November 1 of that same year, he was appointed Delegate of the Cardinal Vicar for the Council of Lay Associations.
