Bishop Tarcísio Nascentes dos Santos

Tarcísio Nascentes dos Santos was born on February 27, 1954, in Niterói. After entering the São José Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Niterói, he pursued philosophy studies at the São Bento Monastery in the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro and theology studies at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Mariana. He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1978, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Niterói, where he held the following positions: teacher at the São José Seminary (1978–1979); pastor of São Domingos Parish (1979); seminary vice-rector and archdiocesan coordinator for vocational pastoral care (1980); parochial vicar of Nossa Senhora da Conceição Parish (1981); pastor of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré Parish (1982–1985); pastor of Nossa Senhora da Conceição Parish (1993–1995); pastor of Nossa Senhora de Fátima Parish in São Gonçalo (since 1997); and episcopal vicar for the archdiocese's "South" Vicariate and academic director of the archdiocese's Institute of Philosophy and Theology (since 2003). He also served as spiritual assistant to the Serra Club and the M.E.C.E., and as rector of the Nossa Senhora das Graças Chapel at the São Vicente de Paula College. He obtained a degree in Dogmatic Theology from what was then the Roman Athenaeum of the Holy Cross. On February 11, 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Divinópolis, and he received episcopal ordination on April 18 of that same year.
