Bishop of Serrinha
Hélio Pereira dos Santos was born on November 18, 1967, in Pão de Açúcar, in the Diocese of Palmeira dos Índios, in the State of Alagoas. He completed his philosophy studies at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Maceió (1990–1992) and his theology studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1993–1996). He pursued studies in Literature at the State University of Alagoas and specialized in History at the *Centro de Estudos Superiores de Maceió* (CESMAC) and in English language teaching at Cândido Mendes University. He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1996, and incardinated into the Diocese of Palmeira dos Índios, where he held the following positions: Treasurer of the São Vicente College in Pão de Açúcar (AL); Rector of the São João Maria Vianney Seminary in Palmeira dos Índios (AL); Chaplain of *Nossa Senhora Aparecida* at São Vicente Parish and of *Divina Pastora* at *Nossa Senhora do Amparo* Parish; Parochial Vicar of *Nossa Senhora da Saúde* in Igaci (AL); Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator; Vicar General; Chancellor of the Curia; Parish Priest of *Bom Jesus dos Pobres* in Quebrangulo (AL); and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. Furthermore, he served as a professor at the *Fundação Estadual da Saúde* in Sergipe, at the *Centro de Estudos Superiores de Maceió* (CESMAC), and at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Faculty in Palmeira dos Índios (AL). On April 27, 2016, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Tiava and Auxiliary Bishop of São Salvador da Bahia, receiving episcopal ordination on July 22 of that year. Within the Northeast 3 Region of the Brazilian Episcopal Conference, he is responsible for the Commission for Deacons.
