Gustavo Garcia-Siller, M.Sp.S., was born on December 21, 1956, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. In 1973, he entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in Mexico City and made his first profession in 1975. From 1975 to 1978, he pursued his studies at the Institute of Philosophy in Guadalajara, Mexico. From 1980 to 1984, he undertook theological studies at Saint John Seminary in Camarillo, California, earning a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Psychology from the Jesuit University in Guadalajara, Mexico. Ordained a priest in Guadalajara on June 22, 1984, for the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, he later held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Selma, California (1984–1988); Rector of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit House of Studies in Lynwood, California (1990–1994); Rector of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit House of Studies in Long Beach, California (1994–1996); Rector of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit House of Studies in Portland, Oregon (1996–1999); and Assistant Spiritual Director at Mount Angel Seminary in Portland, Oregon (1996–1999). Later, he served as Rector of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit Theologate House in Oxnard, California, and as Superior of the "Christ the Priest" Vicariate of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in California—which encompasses the territories of the United States and Canada (1999–2003). Appointed Titular Bishop of Esco and Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago on January 24, 2003, he received episcopal ordination on March 19 of that year. Within the Episcopal Conference, he serves as Chair of Region VII and as a member of the Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs and the Subcommittee on African American Affairs. In addition to English and Spanish, he knows French.
