Patriarch of Venice
Francesco Moraglia was born in Genoa on May 25, 1953. He attended the Seminary of Genoa and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1977. He subsequently pursued further studies at the Pontifical Urban University, obtaining a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology in 1981. From 1977 to 1978, he served as an educator at the Major Archiepiscopal Seminary. From 1979 to 1988, he was an assistant pastor at a parish in the city center. Since 1979, he has taught Dogmatic Theology at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy. Since 1986, he has served as a lecturer and later as Dean at the Ligurian Institute of Religious Sciences. In 1996, he was appointed Director of the Diocesan Office for Culture. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council. Since 2003, he has served as a consultor to the Congregation for the Clergy. In 2004, he was appointed a Canon of the Chapter. In addition to his teaching duties at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy and the Ligurian Institute of Religious Sciences, he serves as the diocesan chaplain for the MEIC, directs the "Didascaleion" Study Center, and collaborates with a large parish in Genoa's city center.
