Bishop of Agats
Bishop Aloysius Murwito, Bishop of Agats, was born on December 20, 1950, at Sleman, near Yogyakarta, in the Archdiocese of Semarang. He studied in Indonesia and worked as a teacher and a social worker, and in 1977 he entered the Order of Friars Minor. He made his perpetual vows on January 6, 1982, and he was ordained a priest on July 7, 1982. He was parochial vicar in several places from 1982 to 1983 and parish priest at Waghete from 1983 to 1987, and from 1987 to 1990 he attended pastoral courses at Yogyakarta and courses of spiritual formation at Manila, in the Philippines. He was master of the Franciscan postulants from 1990 to 1995 and a provincial councillor from 1993 to 1995, and from 1995 to 2001 he was provincial minister of the Friars Minor in Indonesia and a diocesan consultor of Jakarta. From 2001 he was vice-provincial of the Friars Minor and parish priest at Depok, in the Diocese of Bogor. On June 7, 2002, he was appointed Bishop of Agats, in Papua, and he received episcopal ordination on September 15, 2002. His episcopal motto is In Deo speravi, non timebo, In God I have hoped, I shall not fear.
