Bishop José Adalberto Jiménez Mendoza

José Adalberto Jiménez Mendoza, O.F.M. Cap., was born on June 23, 1969, in San Plácido, in the Diocese of Portoviejo (Ecuador). He pursued his philosophical and theological studies in Cuenca (1990–1996), obtaining a Licentiate in Theology from the University of Azuay. Subsequently, he studied Psychology at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, specializing in Systemic Psychology in Madrid (2012–2014). He also earned a Master’s degree in Systemic Family and Couples Therapy in Salamanca and another in Humanistic Therapy in Madrid. He made his temporary vows on August 15, 1990, and his perpetual vows on August 14, 1996, in Guayaquil. He was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of Portoviejo on May 16, 1997. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1997–2000: Assistant Master of Post-novices and Parochial Vicar (Cuenca); 2000–2003: Guardian of the Fraternity, Director of the Postulancy, Coordinator of the Colegio San Francisco, and Director of the Fundación Nuestros Hijos (Ibarra); 2003–2005: Novice Master (Portoviejo); 2005–2008: Vice-Provincial Minister of the Capuchin Order in Ecuador and President of the Capuchins in the Americas (Quito); 2008–2011: Vice-Provincial Minister of the Capuchin Order in Ecuador; 2014–2017: Vice-Provincial Minister of the Capuchin Order in Ecuador; since 2016: Vice-President of the CER (Conferencia Ecuatoriana de Religiosos).
