Bishop of Apartadó
Carlos Alberto Correa Martínez was born on July 17, 1968, in Medellín (Colombia). He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the *Seminario Misionero del Espíritu Santo* in La Ceja and obtained a Licentiate in Missiology from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on November 27, 1993, and incardinated into the Diocese of Sonsón-Rionegro. He held the following positions: Parish Priest of *Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles* in the Archdiocese of Portoviejo (Ecuador); Parochial Vicar of *Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria* in Guarne; missionary in the Dioceses of Riohacha and Montería; Episcopal Delegate for missionary animation; Coordinator and later Director of the *Asociación Sacerdotal San Pablo* and the *San Pablo* formation house; and professor and spiritual director at the *Seminario Misionero del Espíritu Santo* in La Ceja. On December 3, 2013, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Severiana and Apostolic Vicar of Guapi, receiving episcopal ordination on the following February 15. Director of the Saint Paul Priestly Association and the Saint Paul formation house (2007–2013); on December 3, 2013, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Apostolic Vicar of Guapi. He received episcopal ordination on February 15, 2014. Monsignor Ettore Balestrero, Apostolic Nuncio to Colombia, served as the principal ordaining bishop at the ceremony, with Monsignor Fidel León Cadavid Marín (Bishop of Sonsón-Rionegro) and Antonio Bayter Abud (Bishop Emeritus of Inírida) as the first concelebrating bishops. Monsignor Medardo de Jesús Henao del Río (Apostolic Vicar of Mitú) and Monsignor Joselito Carreño (Apostolic Vicar of Inírida) also received episcopal ordination alongside Monsignor Carlos Alberto. On March 19, 2024, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Apartadó. He took possession of the assigned Vicariate on March 1, 2014. He served in the parishes from 1995 to 2003. He was coordinator of the San Pablo Priestly Association from 2005 to 2006.
