Bishop of Benjamín Aceval
Bishop Amancio Francisco Benítez Candia, Bishop of Benjamín Aceval, Paraguay, was born on 10 February 1973 in Cerroguy-Itapé, Department of Guaira. He completed philosophical studies at San José National Major Seminary in Lambaré, Asunción, and theological studies at the Catholic University of Asunción. He was ordained a priest on 24 April 1999 for the Diocese of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo. From 2006 to 2010 he pursued studies for the licentiate in sacred liturgy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome. After priestly ordination he was parochial vicar of San Pablo Parish in Caazapá and spiritual adviser for youth ministry from 1999 to 2001, member of the team of formators and professor of liturgy at the National Propaedeutic Major Seminary in Villarrica del Espíritu Santo from 2002 to 2005, pastor of Santa Clara Parish in Iturbe from 2010 to 2014, and secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy of the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference from 2013 to 2014. Since 2015 he has been director of the National Propaedeutic Major Seminary.
