Bishop James Patteril

Mar James Patteril was born on 27 July in Mangalore. After his studies, he began his religious formation in the Congregation of Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, giving his perpetual vows in 1988. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at Saint Peter’s Pontifical Institute in Bangalore, and was ordained a priest on 26 April 1990. He was also awarded a Bachelor of Arts from Christ University in Bangalore. He was sent to Germany to continue his studies in pastoral theology at the Pastoraltheologisches Institut of the Pallottine Fathers in Friedberg. He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Udane and Shirady in Belthangady, rector of the Claret Bhavan House of Formation in Kuravilangad, and bursar of the Claretian Community in Frankfurt. To date he has served as bursar of the province of Würzburg of his religious institute and head of pastoral care for the community of his sui iuris Church in Würzburg. S.E.R.
