Bishop José Lampra Cà

Bishop José Lampra Cà, Bishop of Bissau, was born on January 5, 1964, in Blom, in the region of Biombo and the Diocese of Bissau. He studied philosophy at the major seminary of Djibelor, Senegal, and theology at the major seminary of Sebikhotane, Senegal. He was ordained a priest for Bissau on December 27, 1997. After ordination he served as vice-rector of the minor seminary (1997-2000); spiritual director at the Franciscan seminary (1998); national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (1999-2000); a doctoral student in philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome (2000-2005); a participant in a course of formation for formators at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome (2004-2005); and parish priest of Cristo Redentor in Bissau (2005-2006). From 2005 he served as rector of the diocesan minor seminary, professor of philosophy at the major seminary of Bissau and a member of the presbyteral council. On May 13, 2011, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Leptiminus and Auxiliary Bishop of Bissau. He received episcopal ordination on November 12, 2011, at Bissau, with José Câmnate na Bissign as principal consecrator and Pedro Carlos Zilli and Luis Mariano Montemayor as co-consecrators. On July 11, 2020, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Bissau, and on December 10, 2021, Bishop of Bissau. He was installed as Bishop of Bissau on January 29, 2022.
