Bishop of Balasore
Varghese Thottamkara, C.M., was born on June 2, 1959, in Thottuva (Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly, India). He joined the Vincentian Fathers (Lazarists) in 1982 and made his solemn profession on May 10, 1986. He was ordained a priest on January 6, 1987. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1988–1990: Parish priest in Muniguda and Allada (Diocese of Berhampur, Orissa, India); 1990–1993: Vice-Rector and teacher at the minor seminary in Ambo (Ethiopia); 1993–1995: Rector and teacher at the Vincentian major seminary in Addis Ababa; 1995–1998: Studies in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Angelicum; 1998–2005: Councilor of the Ethiopian Vincentian Province and professor at the St. Francis Theological Institute in Addis Ababa; 2005–2006: Procurator General of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians); 2006–2010: Provincial of the South India Province. Since 2010, he has served as Assistant to the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission.
