Bishop of Bondo
Etienne Ung’eyowun was born on April 6, 1959, in Nyalebbe, in the Diocese of Mahagi-Nioka. He began his studies in his native village and later continued them at the diocesan minor seminary in Vida. He pursued studies in philosophy (1982–1985) at St. Augustine’s in Kisangani and in theology (1985–1988) at the Catholic Faculties of Kinshasa, while residing at the John Paul II University Seminary in the same city. He was ordained a priest on August 10, 1988. Following his ordination, he held various positions: 1988–1990: studies for a Licentiate in Theology at the Catholic Faculties of Kinshasa; 1990–1994: professor at the St. Cyprian Theologate in Bunia; 1994–1996: studies at the Catholic Faculties of Kinshasa, culminating in a degree in Biblical Theology; 1996: assistant to the Bursar General of the Diocese of Mahagi-Nioka; 1997–1999: research studies at the Biblical Institute in Fribourg (Switzerland); 1999–2002: professor and spiritual animator at the St. Cyprian Theologate in Bunia. Since 2002, he has served as Deputy Secretary General of the National Episcopal Conference.
