Bishop of Bougainville
Bishop Dariusz Piotr Kałuża, Bishop of Bougainville, was born on November 5, 1967, at Pszczyna, in the Diocese of Bielsko-Żywiec, in Poland. In 1985, after finishing his studies at the minor seminary in Częstochowa, he entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Family, professing his first vows in 1987, and he continued his philosophical and theological formation at the major seminary of the institute at Kazimierz Biskupi. He was ordained a priest on May 8, 1993. He was assistant priest at Złotów in Poland from 1993 to 1996 and studied English in Great Britain from 1996 to 1997, and in 1997 he went as a missionary to Papua New Guinea, to the Diocese of Mendi, where he was parish priest of two parishes from 1997 to 2004 and director of the diocesan formation centre for catechists from 2004 to 2005. He was vicar general of the Diocese of Mendi from 2006 to 2011, its diocesan administrator from 2011 to 2012, and again its vicar general from 2012 to 2015, and in 2015 he was pastoral vicar of the Archdiocese of Madang. On June 9, 2016, he was appointed Bishop of Goroka. He received episcopal ordination on August 20, 2016, at Kefamo, with Francesco Sarego as principal consecrator and Douglas William Young and Stephen Joseph Reichert as co-consecrators. On September 12, 2020, he was appointed Bishop of Bougainville, and he was installed on November 15, 2020.
