Bishop Thomas Vũ Đình Hiệu

Bishop Thomas Vũ Đình Hiệu, Bishop of Bùi Chu, was born on October 30, 1954, in Ninh My, in the Diocese of Bùi Chu. He studied at the minor seminary of Xuân Lộc and at the major seminary of St. Pius X in Dalat. Because of the difficult political situation of the country he spent many years in pastoral service in the parish of Tan Mai Due, from 1977 to 1988, and then at the episcopal curia of Xuân Lộc as secretary to the bishop, from 1988 to 1999. He was ordained a priest on January 22, 1999, and was incardinated in the Diocese of Xuân Lộc. After his ordination he served in the episcopal curia from 1999 to 2000, and from 2000 to 2006 he studied moral theology at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse, in France, where he obtained a maîtrise in theology. From 2006 he was chancellor of the Diocese of Xuân Lộc. On July 25, 2009, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Xuân Lộc and Titular Bishop of Bahanna. He received episcopal ordination on October 10, 2009, with Dominique Nguyễn Chu Trinh as principal consecrator and Thomas Nguyễn Văn Trâm and Cosme Hoàng Văn Đạt as co-consecrators. On December 24, 2012, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Bùi Chu, and he succeeded as Bishop of Bùi Chu on August 17, 2013.
