Bishop Edson Batista de Mello

Edson Batista de Mello was born on December 15, 1964, in São Leopoldo, in the Diocese of Novo Hamburgo, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He pursued his philosophy studies at the Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) in São Leopoldo (RS) and his theology studies at the Major Seminary in Viamão (RS). He was ordained a priest on December 5, 1997, and incardinated into the Diocese of Novo Hamburgo, where he held the following positions: assistant at the Philosophy Seminary; rector of the Propaedeutic Seminary; rector of the Theology Seminary; and parish priest of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes in Canela. Currently, he serves as the diocesan pastoral coordinator, parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in São Leopoldo, and a member of the Presbyteral Council, the College of Consultors, and the Diocesan Council for Economic Affairs.
