Bishop of Carúpano
Bishop Jaime José Villarroel Rodríguez, Bishop of Carúpano, was born on May 17, 1962, in Porlamar, in the Diocese of Margarita. Before entering the seminary he obtained a higher technical diploma in marine mechanics as an engineering officer from the Instituto Universitario de Tecnología del Mar of Margarita. He completed his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology at the San José Seminary at El Hatillo, in the Archdiocese of Caracas. He was ordained a priest for Margarita on July 30, 1993. He served as assistant parish priest of San Simón Apóstol at Punta de Piedras; assistant parish priest and then parish priest of San José at Paraguachí; parish priest of the cathedral of Margarita; and diocesan coordinator of the Instituto Venezolano de Capacitación Profesional de la Iglesia. From 2001 he served as vicar general of the Diocese of Margarita, and from February 2008 to January 2009 as diocesan administrator of the same see during its vacancy. On April 10, 2010, he was appointed Bishop of Carúpano. He received episcopal ordination on June 26, 2010, with Rafael Ramón Conde Alfonzo as principal consecrator and Enrique Pérez Lavado and Jorge Anibal Quintero Chacón as co-consecrators.
