Archbishop of Catania
Luigi Renna was born on January 23, 1966, in Corato, in the province of Bari and the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie. He entered the Seminary of Andria, where he completed his classical high school education, while his formation for the ministerial priesthood took place at the "Pius XI" Pontifical Regional Seminary in Molfetta. In 1993, he obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, and in 2003, he completed his doctoral studies at the Pontifical Lateran University. He was ordained a priest on September 7, 1991, for the Diocese of Andria. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at the "Most Holy Sacrament" (SS.mo Sacramento) parish in Andria (1991–1993); Vice-Rector of the Episcopal Seminary (1993–1997); Director of the "Mons. Di Donna" Diocesan School for Socio-Political Engagement (1993–2009); Teacher of Catholic Religion at the Classical High School in Andria (1993–1999); Director of the Diocesan Vocations Center (1994–2009); Rector of the Diocesan Minor Seminary (1997–2009); Lecturer in Moral Theology at the Theological Faculty of Puglia in Molfetta (1999–2000); Director of the diocesan monthly publication *Insieme* (1999–2009); Episcopal Delegate for Permanent Deacons (2000–2001); Vice-Postulator for the beatification cause of the Venerable Msgr. Giuseppe Di Donna, Bishop of Andria (2002–2009); Coordinator of the Theological Faculty of Puglia’s research group on "Neuroscience and Human Behavior" (2005–2009); and Director of the journal of the "Regina Apuliae" Institute of Religious Sciences in Molfetta (2008–2010). In addition, since 1998 he has been a Canon of the Andria Cathedral Chapter; since 1999, Director of the “Saint Thomas Aquinas” Diocesan Library; since 1999, a member of the College of Consultors; since 2005, Director of the “Saint Luke the Evangelist” Diocesan Archive; since 2006, Director of the Training School for Pastoral Workers; and since 2009, Rector of the “Pius XI” Pontifical Regional Seminary in Molfetta. Since 2009, he has held the title of Chaplain to His Holiness. He is the author of numerous publications on moral theology, spirituality, and local ecclesiastical history.
