Bishop of Charlotte
Msgr. Michael T. Martin, O.F.M. Conv., was born on 2 December 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland, in the archdiocese of the same name. He entered the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Conventual, and gave his solemn vows on 2 August 1985. He was subsequently awarded a bachelor’s degree from Saint Hyacinth College and Seminary in Granby, Massachusetts, and studied theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty “San Bonaventura” in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1989. Following ordination, he first held the roles of admissions director and teacher at Saint Francis High School in Athol Springs, New York (1989-1996). After obtaining a Master of Education from Boston College (1993), he went on to serve as principal and then head of Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, Maryland (1996-2001, 2001-2010), director of Duke Catholic Center in Durham, North Carolina (2010-2022), and since 2022, parish priest of Saint Philip Benizi in Jonesboro, Georgia.
