Bishop of Chilpancingo-Chilapa
Bishop José de Jesús González Hernández, O.F.M., Bishop of Chilpancingo-Chilapa, was born on December 25, 1964, in Etzatlán, in the State of Jalisco. After his primary and secondary studies and the Franciscan postulancy in the religious province of San Francisco y Santiago, he studied philosophy at Zapopan and theology at the International Franciscan Seminary of Jerusalem. He made his solemn profession and was ordained a priest on June 24, 1994, at Jerusalem. He served as parish priest of the mission of Huazamota in the State of Durango (1994-1997) and as guardian and parish priest of the Santa María mission in the State of Jalisco, where he was also director of the college for indigenous children (1997-2000). From 2000 to 2005 he served abroad: in the Holy Land as confessor and guide of pilgrims during the Jubilee Year of 2000; in Sweden for three years as guardian and parish priest of the Catholic mission for Hispanic faithful; and in Brussels in the International Franciscan Community, in preparation for mission in Africa. From 2006 he served in Mozambique as rector and parish priest of the cathedral church of Inhambane. On February 27, 2010, he was appointed Prelate of Jesús María. He received episcopal ordination on May 25, 2010, with Juan Sandoval Íñiguez as principal consecrator and Christophe Louis Yves Georges Pierre and José Antonio Pérez Sánchez as co-consecrators. On February 11, 2022, he was appointed Bishop of Chilpancingo-Chilapa, and he was installed on April 20, 2022.
