Archdiocese of Campo Grande

Priestly ordination: December 3, 1988. Born on April 1, 1956, Dom Dimas Lara Barbosa was ordained a priest in 1988. His long career began as the pastor of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Eugênio Mello, in the Diocese of São José dos Campos, São Paulo. Dom Dimas also served as a parochial vicar at the Sant’Ana and São José parishes and at the São Dimas Cathedral within the Diocese of São José dos Campos. He further served as director and professor at the city's diocesan propaedeutic seminary. He was vice-rector of the Philosophy Seminary and a professor at the Santa Teresinha do Menino Jesus Institute of Philosophy, and later vice-rector of the Padre Rodolfo Theological Residence—both institutions belonging to the Diocese of São José dos Campos. Dom Dimas also taught at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Theological Institute in Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo state. While in São José dos Campos, he also served as the parish administrator of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. From 2000 to 2003, while serving the CNBB (National Conference of Bishops of Brazil) in Brasília, Dom Dimas acted as Secretary of the National Pastoral Institute (INP) and Secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Doctrine. He was ordained a bishop in August 2003. He served as Secretary General of the CNBB from 2007 to 2011, and in July 2011, he took office as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Campo Grande.
