Bishop Thomas Graham Rose

Graham Rose was born in Evander (in the present-day Diocese of Dundee) on December 23, 1951. He attended secondary school at Christian Brothers’ College in Kimberley and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, earning degrees in Commerce (B.Com) and Civil Law (LLB). He subsequently studied philosophy and theology at St. John Vianney National Seminary in Pretoria. He was ordained a priest on December 12, 1980, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Johannesburg. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1981–1983: Parish Priest in Soweto; 1984–1987: Studies in Ireland, where he obtained a degree in Moral Theology at Maynooth; 1987–1990: Parish Priest in East Rand and Professor at St. John Vianney Seminary, Pretoria; 1990–1991: Parish Priest of Magaliesburg; 1991–1997: Rector of St. John Vianney Seminary; 1999–2006: Parish Priest of Rivonia; 2006–2007: Parish Priest in East Rand again. Since 2008, he has served as Parish Priest in Benoni and as a professor at the new St. Augustine’s Catholic College of Higher Education in Randburg, Johannesburg. He also serves as the Diocesan Vicar for Vocations, a Diocesan Consultor, and a member of the Presbyteral Council of Johannesburg.
