Bishop Ägidius Johann Zsifkovics

Ägidius Zsifkovics was born in Güssing (Diocese of Eisenstadt) on April 16, 1963. He completed his philosophical and theological studies in Vienna and Zagreb. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Eisenstadt on June 29, 1987. After serving as private secretary to the then-Bishop of Eisenstadt, H.E. Msgr. Stefan Lázló, he pursued further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining a doctorate in Canon Law. During this period, he resided at the Pontifical Teutonic Institute of Santa Maria dell’Anima. In 1993, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor and subsequently Chancellor of the Eisenstadt Ordinariate; in 1994, he also became Head of the Section for the Croatian linguistic group within the diocesan Curia, Director of the diocesan magazine for Croatian the faithful, "Glasnik," and Parish Priest of Wulkaprodersdorf. Since 1999, he has served as Secretary General of the Austrian Episcopal Conference, while simultaneously retaining his roles as Head of the Section for the Croatian linguistic group in the Eisenstadt diocesan Curia, Director of the diocesan magazine for Croatian the faithful "Glasnik," and Parish Priest of Wulkaprodersdorf.
