Bishop of Fajardo-Humacao
Luis Miranda was born on January 22, 1954, in Santurce. He was baptized, received his First Communion, and was confirmed at Santa Teresita Parish in Santurce. He attended Santa Teresita Academy, Pedro G. Goyco School, and the Lucchetti School of Visual Arts, all located in Santurce. He pursued studies at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Seminary in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and studied theology at the Gaudium et Spes Philosophical-Theological Institute in Salamanca, Spain; he also earned a licentiate degree in the Theology of Religious Life from the Regina Apostolorum Institute (run by the Claretian Fathers) in Madrid, Spain. In 1978, he made his profession in the Third Order of Carmel just before entering the seminary. On September 14, 1984, he was ordained a priest through the laying on of hands by Cardinal Aponte Martínez—of blessed memory—at Santa Teresita Parish in Santurce.
