Bishop of Garzón
Bishop Jaime Alberto Cabrera Arcos is Bishop of Garzón, Colombia. He was born on 20 September 1967 in Sandoná, in the Department of Nariño and the Diocese of Pasto. He completed secondary studies at the Instituto Champagnat in Pasto and studied philosophy and theology at the Sagrados Corazones Major Seminary of Pasto. He obtained a civil licentiate in philosophy and theology from the Universidad Mariana of Pasto, a licentiate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 2000, and later a master's degree in education from the University of Manizales. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Pasto on 14 January 1994 and was incardinated in the same diocese. After priestly ordination, Bishop Cabrera Arcos served as vice chancellor and bishop's secretary in 1994; parish priest of Inmaculada Concepción in Buesaco from 1995 to 1997; parish priest of San Agustín, professor at the major seminary, and diocesan chancellor from 2001 to 2007; episcopal vicar for pastoral care from 2007 to 2009; parish priest of Santa María Magdalena in Yacuanquer from 2009 to 2011; parish priest of Santa Mónica in Pasto from 2011 to 2012; parish priest of Resurrección del Señor from 2012 to 2014; rector of the Fundación Universitaria Católica del Sur in Pasto from 2015 to 2019; professor at the Sagrados Corazones Major Seminary from 2001 to 2018 and coordinator of the diocesan Commission for Biblical Animation of Pastoral Care; parish priest of Cristo Maestro in Pasto from 2019 to 2025; and head of the Cristo Maestro priestly formation centre for professional youth vocations from 2021 to 2025. On 28 January 2025 Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Garzón. On 25 March 2025 he received episcopal ordination from Archbishop Paolo Rudelli, Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, in the Cathedral of San Miguel Arcángel in Garzón, Huila. In the same ceremony he took canonical possession of the assigned see.
