Wolfgang Ipolt is Bishop of Görlitz, Germany. Wolfgang Ipolt was born on 17.03.1954 in Gotha, Thuringia. In 1972 he completed the Abitur at the state extended secondary school (EOS). From 1972 to 1973 he took a language course in Latin and Greek in Schöneiche. From 1973 to 1977 he studied theology in Erfurt. From 1977 to 1979 he attended the pastoral seminary in Neuzelle and completed practical assignments. On 16.12.1978 he was ordained deacon in Erfurt. On 30.06.1979 he was ordained priest in Erfurt. From 1979 to 1983 he was chaplain in Worbis. From 1983 to 1985 he was chaplain in Berlin. From 1985 to 1989 he was chaplain in Erfurt. From 1989 to 1992 he was subregent at the Erfurt seminary and received a licentiate in pastoral theology. From 1992 to 2004 he was pastor in Nordhausen at the Parish of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. In 2001 he became a non-resident cathedral capitular. From 1993 to 2008 he was lecturer in homiletics at the pastoral seminary. From 2004 to 2011 he was rector of the Erfurt seminary. On 28.08.2011 he received episcopal ordination in Görlitz. His motto is: "Odorem notitiae Christi manifestare - To spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ" (2 Cor 2,14). He is a member of the Pastoral Commission (III) and deputy chairman of the Commission for the Universal Church (X) of the German Bishops' Conference. He is a member of the association committee of the "Association of the Dioceses of Germany (VDD)."
