Archbishop of Hà Nội
Joseph Vu Van Thien was born on October 26, 1960, in Ke Sat, Hai Duong, in the Diocese of Hai Phòng. After completing his secondary education, he entered the Major Seminary of Hanoi in 1982, where he pursued his philosophical and theological studies. He was ordained a priest on January 24, 1988. He served as Secretary to the Bishop and Parish Priest of My Dong (1988–1994) and as Parish Priest of Dong Xa (1994–1996). He then studied theology at the Catholic Institute of Paris, where he obtained a licentiate degree (1996–2000). Since 2000, he has taught theology at the Major Seminary of Hanoi.
