Bishop of Ho
Emmanuel Fianu, S.V.D., was born on June 14, 1957, in Tegbi, near Keta (a location now within the Diocese of Keta-Akatsi). From 1963, he attended primary and secondary schools in Tegbi, Ada-Foah, and Accra. For three years (1976–1979), he was a student at the Major Seminary in Tamale. After joining the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), he completed his novitiate in Nkwatia-Kwahu, made his first profession in 1980, and took his perpetual vows in 1984. He was ordained a priest on July 14, 1985, in Accra. Following his ordination, he held the following positions and pursued further studies: 1986–1990: parish assistant in Togo, youth chaplain, and coordinator of the lay apostolate; teacher at the *Collège d’Enseignement Général* in Kanté; 1990–1994: student of Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome; 1994–1996: Admonitor of the SVD District of Lomé, lecturer in Biblical Sciences at the St. John Paul II Seminary and the St. Paul Institute in Lomé, and Secretary of the Ghana-Togo Commission for Liturgical Publications; 1996–1998: Councilor at the Divine Word College in Rome; 1998–2000: Admonitor at the Divine Word College in Rome; 2000–2004: Rector of the Divine Word College in Rome, and lecturer and formator at St. Victor’s Major Seminary in Tamale; 2001–2003: Secretary for Formation for the SVD Africa-Madagascar Provinces; 2004–2006: Coordinator for the AFRAM zone, based in Accra; since 2006: Secretary of the General Council of his Congregation, a role in which he was confirmed in 2012.
