Bishop of Huelva
Santiago Gómez Sierra was born in Madridejos, in the province and archdiocese of Toledo, on November 24, 1957. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Seminary of Córdoba, obtained a Licentiate in Philosophy and Communication Sciences (Philosophy section) from the Complutense University of Madrid, and a Licentiate in Theology (specializing in Dogmatic and Fundamental Theology) from the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid. He published his licentiate thesis, *Fe y Culturas en Juan Pablo II*. Ordained a priest on September 18, 1982, he subsequently held the following positions: formator, vice-rector, and prefect of studies at the San Pelagio Major Seminary in Córdoba (1982–1993); parish priest of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles in Alcolea (1983–1991); archpriest of Alto Guadalquivir (1989–1991); person in charge of vocational pastoral care (1991–1993); parish priest of San Juan y Todos los Santos in Córdoba (1993–2005); vice-president of the Governing Board and president of the Executive Commission of the *Opera Pia Santísima Trinidad* in Córdoba (1993–2006); vicar general (1997–2001); and vicar general and moderator of the Curia (2004–2007). Currently in Córdoba, he serves as Dean of the Cathedral Chapter (since 2005), President of the CajaSur Savings Bank and Chaplain to the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart (since 2007), and Professor at the San Pelagio Major Seminary (since 1982).
