Prelate of Itacoatiara
Canavarros dos Santos was born on December 3, 1967, in Corumbá, in the diocese of the same name, in the State of Mato Grosso. He made his religious profession on January 31, 1988, in the Society of Saint Francis of Sales (Salesians) and was ordained a priest on December 7, 1996. He studied philosophy at the Dom Bosco Catholic University in Campo Grande and theology at the Pius XI Theological Institute in São Paulo. He earned a degree in Education from the Methodist University of Piracicaba and completed postgraduate courses in spiritual accompaniment, sexual ethics, and Salesian spirituality. He has held the following positions: Assistant Novice Master; Director of the São Vicente Institute in Campo Grande; Director of the Salesian College and Faculty in Lins; Director of the Pius XI Theological Institute in São Paulo; Vice-Provincial of the Salesians of Mato Grosso; Director of the Post-Novitiate in Campo Grande; Director of the Religious Community in Corumbá; Pedagogical Director of Santa Teresa College; and Parochial Vicar of the Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora Shrine. On October 12, 2016, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Feradi Minus and Auxiliary Bishop of Manaus, receiving episcopal ordination on the following December 12. Since November 29, 2023, he has served as Apostolic Administrator of the Territorial Prelature of Itacoatiara.
