Bishop Pedro Aguado Cuesta

Bishop Pedro Aguado Cuesta, Bishop of Jaca, Spain, was born on 26 June 1957 in Bilbao. He made his novitiate year at the house of Orendain (Guipúzcoa). He made his simple profession on 24 August 1975 and his solemn profession on 25 August 1979 in the San José de Calasanz community of Pamplona, where he was ordained a priest on 13 June 1982. He studied teaching at the Nuestra Señora de Begoña Teacher Training School in Bilbao (1978). He is a licentiate in Ecclesiastical Sciences from the Higher Center of Theology, dependent on the University of Navarra (1982), and a licentiate in Philosophy and Educational Sciences from the University of Deusto (1988). He was bursar in various communities of the Order: Juniorate 1 of Bilbao (1975-1978), Juniorate 2 of Pamplona (1978-1982), and the Juan XXIII community of Pamplona, where he was also responsible for vocational pastoral ministry (1982-1985). For ten years he was rector of the Juniorate 1 community of Bilbao (1985-1995). He was also responsible for pastoral ministry at the Calasanz schools of Pamplona (1982-1985) and Bilbao (1985-1995). He also held the offices of rector and master of juniors of the Province of Vasconia (1985-1995), provincial assistant (1988-1995), provincial superior of Vasconia (1995-2007), and provincial superior of Emaús (2007-2009). He was a member of the Executive Council of the Union of Superiors General (2012-2021). Until the date of his episcopal appointment, he had been superior general of the Order of the Pious Schools since 2009, president of the Commission for Education of the Unions of Superiors General (UISG and USG) since 2009, and consultor of the Holy See's Congregation for Catholic Education since 2016. Pope Francis appointed Pedro Aguado Cuesta bishop of the Dioceses of Huesca and Jaca on 29 March 2025. His episcopal ordination took place on 14 June 2025 in the cathedral of Huesca. On Sunday the 15th, he took possession of the Diocese of Jaca.
