Bishop of Kumbakonam
Msgr. Jeevanandam Amalanathan was born on 2 April 1963 in Michaelpatti. He studied at the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Kumbakonam, and the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Poonamallee, Chennai. He was awarded a doctorate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 6 May 1990 for the clergy of Kumbakonam. He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest on Ammanpet (1990-1991); prefect of the minor seminary (1991-1992); parish priest in Fatimapuram (1992-1993) and Kabisthalam (1993-1998); professor at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Chennai (1998-2002 and 2008-2014); rector and parish priest of the Basilica of Poondi (2015-2016); since 2016, he has served as vicar general of Kumbakonam.
