Bishop Czeslaw Kozon

Bishop Czeslaw Kozon (born: 17.11.1951 - ordained priest: 06.01.1979 - consecrated bishop: 07.05.1995) Bishop Czeslaw Kozon was born in 1951 in Idestrup on Falster and grew up in a family with Polish roots. He spent the years 1971-77 in Rome, where he studied for the priesthood at the Gregorian and Lateran University. On 6 January 1979 he was ordained priest by Bishop Hans L. Martensen in Saint Ansgar's Church in Copenhagen (the Catholic cathedral), where he served for a short time as assistant priest. From 1979 to 1984 he was assistant priest at Saint Mary's Church in Aalborg. In 1984 he was moved to the post of parish priest of Saint Andrew's Church in Ordrup, from 1989 also with responsibility for the neighboring parish of Saint Therese in Hellerup. In 1994 he was appointed vicar general, i.e. Bishop Hans L. Martensen's right hand. The following year he succeeded Bishop Martensen, who left office for health reasons, in the post as bishop for Danish Catholics. He was consecrated bishop in Saint Ansgar's Church on 7 May 1995.
