Bishop Joseph Kwaku Afrifah-Agyekum

Bishop Joseph Kwaku Afrifah-Agyekum, Bishop of Koforidua, was born on December 22, 1954, in Akim Swedru, in what is now the Diocese of Koforidua. He was ordained a priest for Accra on July 17, 1983, and on the erection of the Diocese of Koforidua in 1992 he was incardinated there, on July 6, 1992. After ordination he served as parochial vicar of the cathedral of Accra (1983-1985); parish priest of St. Peter's parish, Osu (1985-1986); a doctoral student in sacred liturgy at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant'Anselmo (1986-1992); and parish priest of St. George's parish, Koforidua (1992-1993), subsequently serving as administrator of the cathedral and vicar general of Koforidua. From 2005 he was diocesan administrator. On April 12, 2006, he was appointed Bishop of Koforidua. He received episcopal ordination on July 1, 2006, with Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle as principal consecrator and Peter Kwasi Sarpong and Gregory Eebolawola Kpiebaya as co-consecrators.
