Bishop of Krishnagar
Nirmol Vincent Gomes, S.D.B., was born on February 8, 1959, in Ranaghat (Diocese of Krishnagar). After entering the Salesians of Don Bosco Minor Seminary as an aspirant, he completed his novitiate at Sunnyside, Shillong. He pursued philosophical studies in Sonada, Darjeeling, and theological studies at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, where he obtained a Doctorate in Educational Sciences. He made his perpetual profession in the Salesian Society of Saint John Bosco on May 24, 1979, and was ordained a priest on July 22, 1989. He has held the following positions: Licentiate in Pedagogy from the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) (1988–1991); Dean of Studies (1991–1997) and Rector (2000–2006) of Salesian College in Sonada; Doctorate in Pedagogical Sciences from the UPS (1997–2000); Confessor (2006–2007) and Rector (2007–2009) at Don Bosco School in Krishnagar; Parochial Vicar in Bongaon (2009–2010); Vice-Rector (2010–2013) and Rector (2013–2014) of Don Bosco School in Siliguri; Provincial of the Salesians of Saint John Bosco in Calcutta (2014–2020); and, from 2020 to the present, Vice-Director of the Novitiate of the Salesian Society of Saint John Bosco in Darjeeling.
