Bishop of Lake Charles
Glen John Provost was born on August 9, 1949, in Lafayette. He attended the Hamilton Training School (elementary level) and subsequently the Cathedral School in Lafayette. After attending Immaculata Seminary (high school level), he pursued studies in English literature at Saint Joseph Seminary College in Saint Benedict, Louisiana. He then studied at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, earning a Bachelor of Theology degree from the Angelicum in 1974 and a Master of Arts degree (English literature) from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette in 1981. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1975, in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican. He subsequently held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Saint Mary Magdalen Parish in Abbeville (1975–1983); Pastor of Saint Leo IV Parish in Roberts Cove (1983–1985); Pastor of the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist in Lafayette (1985–1998); and Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima in Lafayette (since 1998). Additionally, he served as a judge on the diocesan tribunal, a member of the Diocesan School Board, President of the Presbyteral Council, Dean of the West Lafayette Deanery, a member of the College of Consultors, a board member of the Lafayette Catholic Service Center/Opelousas Housing Corporation, a member of the Diocesan Building Committee, and chaplain of the Lafayette Serra Club. He was named a Chaplain to His Holiness on July 8, 1988. In addition to English, he speaks French, Italian, and Spanish.
