Bishop of Latacunga
Giovanni Mauricio Paz Hurtado was born in Cotacachi, Imbabura Province, on November 30, 1962. He completed his primary education at the "Seis de Julio" school in Cotacachi and his secondary education at the "Sánchez y Cifuentes" school in Ibarra. He pursued his studies in philosophy and theology at the "Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza" Diocesan Major Seminary in Ibarra. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1988, by H.E. Msgr. Luis Oswaldo Pérez Calderón, for the Diocese of Ibarra. Throughout his priestly ministry, Msgr. Giovanni Mauricio Paz Hurtado has held the following positions: 2000–2006: Coordinator of the Missions Commission for the Diocese of Cienfuegos (Cuba); 2012–2016: Professor of Missiology at the "Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza" Diocesan Major Seminary (Ibarra).
