Bishop of Le Caire (Maronite)
Bishop Georges Chihane was born on 31 May 1953 at Haret Sakhr, in the region of Jounieh. He completed studies at the Patriarchal Seminary of Ghazir and at Saint Esprit University of Kaslik. He was ordained a priest on 12 August 1979 for the Patriarchal Eparchy. After several years of pastoral service in the parish of Notre Dame du Secours of Haret Sakhr, he was sent to Paris for specialization at the Institut Catholique, where he obtained a diploma in catechetical pastoral ministry while at the same time carrying out ministry in the parish of Notre-Dame de Compassion. Having returned to Lebanon, he was assigned as pastor to Saint Nohra Church in Sahel Alma, responsible for Caritas of Kesrouan, and in charge of vocations for the Vicariate of Jounieh. In 1997 he was transferred as pastor to Saint Charbel in Amman, Jordan, where he is also chaplain of the Neocatechumenal Way. In addition to Arabic, French, and English, he knows Syriac and Latin.
