Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri

Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri, Bishop of Lạng Sơn et Cao Bằng, was born on September 12, 1956, in the village of Phuoc Am, in the Diocese of Đà Nẵng. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the diocesan major seminary (1975-1982), though unofficially, because the seminary had been closed by the government authorities. He was ordained a deacon on September 3, 1989, and a priest for Đà Nẵng on November 21, 1989. After ordination he served as parish priest of Ha Lam (1989-1998); a member of the diocesan council (1996-1998); and a student of pastoral theology at the Institut Catholique in Paris (1998-2002). From 2003 he served as parish priest of Tra Kieu, rector of the Marian centre of Tra Kieu, dean of the Hoi An deanery and a member of the diocesan council. On May 13, 2006, he was appointed Bishop of Đà Nẵng. He received episcopal ordination on August 4, 2006, at Đà Nẵng, with Paul Nguyễn Bình Tinh as principal consecrator and Étienne Nguyễn Như Thể and Antoine Vũ Huy Chương as co-consecrators. On March 12, 2016, he was appointed Bishop of Lạng Sơn et Cao Bằng.
