Bishop of Lutsk
Vitaliy Skomarovskyi was born on December 30, 1963, in Berdychiv, in the Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr (Ukraine). He pursued medical studies at the Zhytomyr Medical Institute. From 1985 to 1990, he studied at the Major Seminary in Riga (Latvia), receiving priestly ordination on May 27, 1990. For several years, he served as a parochial vicar in Berdychiv and subsequently as the parish priest of Sumy. From 1995 to 2000, he was the Chancellor of the Diocesan Curia of Zhytomyr (which became the Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr on November 25, 1998) while simultaneously serving as the parish priest of the cathedral. From 2000 to 2003, he served as Vice-Rector of the Major Seminary of the same ecclesiastical jurisdiction. On April 7, 2003, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr and received episcopal ordination on June 7 of that same year.
