Bishop of Macau
Stephen Lee Bun Sang was born on November 10, 1956, in Hong Kong. He pursued his university studies in England, first at Oxford Polytechnic (1976–1977) and later at the School of Architecture in London, earning a degree in architecture in 1981. During his university years, he encountered the spirituality of Opus Dei and became a "numerary" member. After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant at the John Harris Architects firm in London and subsequently at the firm's Hong Kong branch. He soon decided to leave his job and enter the seminary to pursue philosophical and theological studies—undertaken partly in Hong Kong and partly in Rome at the Roman College of the Holy Cross—culminating in his ordination as a priest on August 20, 1988. He is incardinated in the Personal Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei. In 1990, he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law from the University of Navarra with a thesis titled *Relaciones Iglesia-Estado en la República Popular China* (Church-State Relations in the People's Republic of China). Following a brief period of pastoral work in the Philippines, he returned to Hong Kong, where he held the following pastoral and administrative roles: 1990–1991: Director of Tak Sun School in Tsim Sha Tsui; from 1991: Defender of the Bond at the Diocesan Tribunal of Hong Kong; from 2009: Collaborator with the Study Mission, focusing particularly on canonical matters and cases regarding the nullity of marriage; from 2011: Vicar of Opus Dei for East Asia.
